North High School’s Michael Bailey – Player Profile Presented by Visit Wichita

North High School’s Michael Bailey

It takes a special athlete to make the switch to quarterback his junior year, but that is exactly what North High School’s Michael Bailey has done to help his team win. Head coach Quinton Burgess said Bailey was making the move mid-summer and has exceeded all expectations thus far. For Bailey, playing quarterback is about competing and leading.

“I’ve been playing football for 10 years now. I started playing in the first grade and now I am in my year. What I love most about the game is the opportunity to compete with other athletes and put your skills to the test every play,” said Bailey.

His throwing motion and accuracy continue to improve, and he is getting more comfortable in the pocket. Bailey can also hurt you with his ability to run the ball. Bailey said he has high expectations for the team this season.

“My expectations are to be a lot better than we were last year, and the years before that. North has a rough past in football but I want that to change this year and I believe with the players and coaches we have available this year; we can make something happen,” said Bailey.

Also a basketball player, Bailey is confident in his teammates and coaches as they look to reach new heights this season. Along the way, they want to enjoy the season and soak in what it means to be a prep athlete.

“I love the memories we get to make on and off the field. They are the main things we are going to remember about high school football, not the score or the games played,” said Bailey. “What makes it special is you have to work extra hard to compete with other schools giving it more of a challenge.”

Bailey said it is his teammates who inspire him to play his hardest and make those tough sacrifices you must make to be successful. The new quarterback said he enjoys spending his free time with the important people in his life. In the classroom, Bailey said his favorite subject is math but it’s impossible for him to pick his favorite teacher.

“I do not have a favorite teacher, I like all my teachers,” said Bailey.
