Maize’s Kyla Frenchers – Athlete of the Month Presented by Boston Basham Shelter Insurance

Maize High School point guard Kyla Frenhers is entering her senior season after averaging 9.3 points a game with 2.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest. Frenhers said she excited and ready for the season to tip off.

“This season I’m most excited to celebrate the time and effort us seniors have put into Senior Night. I know it’ll be super emotional for most of us, but it’ll be fun,” said Frenhers.

The point guard is quick to point out that her teammates make playing the game fun, but when they need to flip the switch, finding it is not a problem. “Everyone is super funny and knows how to have fun. But on the flip side we always are able to lock in and focus when we need to,” said Frenhers.

Student-athletes typically take their academics very serious. Frenhers is no different. “On the academic side, the teachers are great, and all adjust to your needs at the time. For the team, that obviously entails us traveling and needing time to catch up on assignments or to get them done ahead of time. They’re very flexible and make it easy. As an athlete at Maize though, it’s everything you could ever want; highly athletic team, experienced and a winning coach, with great facilities and administration,” said Frenhers.

Frenhers is involved in Red Rage, the spirit/pep club for Mazie athletics and she is looking forward to attending college at Regis University in Denver, CO.
