Coming into the 2021 season the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles return seven starters from a team that finished a tumultuous season as Sub-State Runner-Up. One of those seven returning starters is offensive lineman Maddox Marcotte. Last season Marcotte was named to the 2nd Team All-GWAL for his play up front. The big man has played the game of football since he was eight years old and now that he is a senior, Marcotte wants to make this his best season ever.

“This team is going to be underestimated like we are every year, and we are going to prove them wrong,” said Marcotte. “My upcoming expectations for this season are to win the state championship.”

At 6-foot-4 and 260-pounds, Marcotte said he has made significant gains in the weight room this off-season and is looking forward to competing with his teammates.

“The thing I love about my team is that we all have the same goals in mind and will do whatever it takes to achieve them,” said Marcotte. “We have each other’s backs, and we are very supportive of each other.”

Marcotte said it’s a privilege to play for a team like Bishop Carroll with coaches and faculty who care about their student-athletes.

“It’s a privilege to attend Bishop Carroll because I receive an excellent education while playing sports at one of the best schools in state,” said Marcotte. “Academics are very important because there is always going to be a life after football no matter how far you go so it’s very important that you get educated,” said Marcotte.

Joining Marcotte on offense is returning starter Matthew Holthusen at quarterback, Jadonn Williams at running back, Noah Maul and Tate Blasi at wide receiver, Jack Spottedhorse on the line and Eason Kendrick at tight end. Head coach Dusty Trail said the team strength is the experience they have returning to the field.

“Our varsity returners had the opportunity to experience a 2020 season schedule that was very difficult, filled with high quality teams to compete against each week. Experiencing the type of preparation that it takes, week in and week out, to compete against championship level teams is a big benefit. These young men should understand the type of mental and physical preparation it takes to compete at a championship level,” said coach Trail.
