Augusta High School Spirit Spotlight by ICT Cheer Legacy

Augusta High School Spirit Spotlight by ICT Cheer Legacy

A familiar name returns to coach the Augusta High School cheer squad.

Rebecca Timberlake had previously coached at Augusta for five years before taking a break to enjoy her own kids participating in high school athletics and to pursue her master’s degree. Timberlake is now entering her sixth total season with the squad and she is excited to be back.

“I’m really happy to be coaching again. I have a great group of girls to work with this year, and we have a lot to learn together. I love attending the Friday night football games; in a small town like Augusta, that is the place to be on Fridays during the fall. Getting to be part of that as a cheer coach is really special,” said Timberlake. “The girls are very excited to have big crowds in the stands again. They thrive off the energy and it helps the cheerleaders build an exciting atmosphere at the game when they can get the crowd involved.”

With a total of 18 cheerleaders on the squad this year, the sidelines will be loud for sure. With some senior leadership, coach Timberlake is looking forward to a great season.

“Last year COVID derailed a lot of things, but at this point, we are planning to compete at KSHSAA’s State Game Day competition,” said Timberlake. “We have a lot of new girls (nine) on the squad, so I expect a lot of learning to take place. The seniors will be working to leave their own legacy by teaching and supporting the new girls.”
