Shelter Insurance Athlete of the Month
Eisenhower High School’s Cody Hawks

As the football season rapidly approaches for athletes like Cody Hawks of Eisenhower High School, the preparation which has taken months to get to this point, has arrived. Eisenhower head coach Darrin Fisher spoke highly of his senior linebacker.

“Cody is a specimen, and a strong athlete in the weight room. He took second in state powerlifting. He’s a three-time All-Conference player, All-State in 2020, and plays bigger than his stature. He is 6-foot-1, 225-pounds, with a 4.6 40-yard dash. He will be a standout player at linebacker, but also as a tight end for us this year,” said coach Fisher.

Hawks said the atmosphere at Eisenhower is like no other. “We all want see each other succeed on and off the field and we all push each other to be the best version of ourselves. We are close and we’ve all known each other forever. We’ve had a lot of success in our class over the years and this year our class wants to leave a winning legacy and set an attitude for winning at EHS,” said Hawks. “Every single play we give our best effort and play in the moment and play with a short-term memory.”

This off-season, Hawks has worked to improve his game in order to help the Tigers win. From camps to summer workouts, Hawks has done it all. “I’ve been to a lot of big camps over the summer and competed against some of the best kids in the country. One of the things that will set me apart from other guys is the mental attitude to win and compete. I’ve been working on my explosion and quickness as well,” said Hawks.

The Tiger defense will be known for a few things this season according to Hawks. “We will be an extremely aggressive, extremely physical, and extremely determined team. We play to win!” Hawks said.

The goal is simple, getting there is another story. But if this team can put it together, with a player like Hawks, they certainly have a shot at something great.“My goal is to play football as long as possible and after I’m done playing on the field, I want to be a coach,” said Hawks.

Away from school you can usually find Hawks golfing, fishing or working out.
