Wichita Southeast High School’s Penny Johnson may seem like your typical high school teenager, but she is anything but that on the volleyball court. She started playing volleyball five years ago and she quickly developed into an outstanding setter and outside hitter. Playing for Southeast has brought Johnson a lot of joy during her time as a student-athlete.
“I love that my team is like a group of sisters. We connect really well, and the energy is endless. My team is extremely ambitious. I love that we make memories while we play and the giggles are endless,” said Johnson. “My favorite memory as a student-athlete at Southeast was my last fall assembly in high school. It was an eye opener for me, and it was our first assembly in the stadium as well. Representing my teammates and my school is a honor. I get to show other schools and players that Southeast is different and the best of the best!”
Johnson is involved in other activities at school including symphonic orchestra and chamber orchestra. She’s also a Youth Entrepreneur Alumni.
After she graduates, Johnson plans to attend college and possibly continue playing volleyball.
“I plan to go to a JUCO college and or a Division II school and major in general studies. I would love to play competitive volleyball for as long as I can.
