Wellington’s Ali Zeka – Presented by State Farm

By Matt Browning
Ali Zeka of Wellington was voted as the Wichita Large School Preseason Player of the Year. Zeka received over 16,000 votes, which was 42 percent of the overall vote.
“It means a lot to be even put on this poll with so many other good players,” Zeka said. “I have played with, trained with, or played against many of the players that were also entered in this poll and they are all outstanding basketball players including my current AAU teammate, Zyanna Walker. I know my community really supported me in voting and it means a lot to have the support that I do from my town.”
Last season as a sophomore, Zeka was a first team all-league and honorable mention all-league selection.
The Crusaders return most of their talent from last season’s team that went 11-10, as well as some newcomers that will make an impact.
Zeka believes the 2020-2021 season can be a special one for Wellington.
“We have quite a few past players that have worked hard all summer and are ready to come out and work to be the best team we can be,” Zeka said. “I believe that if we work hard and grow together as a team this year, we will be very successful.”
Zeka, who also plays volleyball and runs track, is undecided on her future, but is considering being a chiropractor or sports doctor.
