Valley Center’s Caroline Tipton – Athlete Spotlight Presented by U.S. Coast Guard

By Ember McElrath

Qualifying for all 12 swim events in an entire swim career is impressive but qualifying for all of them in one season is exactly what Caroline Tipton did.

“It feels amazing to qualify,” said Caroline. “It was very beneficial to have a goal for the season, and it feels even better that I achieved that goal.”

Being a junior gives Caroline the opportunity to set an even bigger goal for next year.

“I am excited for next year and to beat my records,” Caroline said.

Growing up Caroline tried several different sports, but she never felt like she was quite at home until she tried swimming. Starting swimming just five short years ago, Caroline found where she truly belongs and is excited about her future.

“I instantly fell in love,” Caroline said.

Balancing school and a busy swim schedule keeps Caroline on her toes. Caroline is not only on the high school swim team, but she is also part of the Wichita Aqua Shocks team as well.

“My desire to improve helps me to keep on going,” Caroline said.

In the little free time Caroline manages to carve out she enjoys spending time with her dog Daisy as well as reading a good book.

“My favorite sports memory is probably the very first meet we had this year,” said Caroline. “Everyone was so excited, feeling great, and pumped up to swim.”

The people that inspire Caroline to push harder each and every day are her friends that are faster than her.

“They inspire me to push myself and be better,” said Caroline. “I also look up to my mom, and my head coach, Abra Thieme.”

After high school Caroline is not sure on where she wants to go, but there is one thing she knows for sure and that is that wherever she goes she wants to swim.
