Tonight’s high school basketball scores, recaps (Dec. 1)

Basketball season is back!

High school basketball season kicked off for most of the state tonight. For many of us, that means we’re in our happy place.

Boys scores

Buhler 60, Nickerson 39

Campus 71, Andover 61 — Andrell Burton scored 25 points and teammate Kaason Thomas 24 in Campus’ win. Andover was led by Blake Rucker’s 21 points, Josh Kim 18 and Owen Allman hit three three-pointers and had 11 points.

Cheney 64, Clearwater 50

Independence 67, Eureka 17

Independent 58, Kiowa County 51 — After taking a 20-14 lead in the first quarter, Independent didn’t score for the next six minutes. Kiowa County took its first lead at 2:02 to go in the first half and led 28-24. But Independent used a 12-6 run to take the lead at 36-34 with 3:05 to go in the third — and didn’t trail again. Sir Ryan Dennis scored 19, hitting three three-pointers in the first quarter. Luke Henderson added 15 and Jaylen Phillips-Grey had 14.

Kapaun 68, Wichita North 23 — Kapaun had four score in double figures — Corbin Johnson with 14, Rocco Keller 12, and Will Thengvall and Owen Herlocker 10 apiece. North’s McCoy scored 10.

Lebo 55, Flinthills 39

Maize 67, Salina Central 48 — Brayden Myovela scored 24 to lead all scorers in Maize’s win.

Marion 59, Goessel 30

West Elk 53, Oswego 29 — Uriah Tillpaugh scored 16 to lead West Elk, Maddex Moreno 15 and Martin Shipley 11.

Wichita Classical 55, Hutchinson Central Christian 47

Wichita Heights 77, Wichita Northwest 36 — Heights held Northwest to 10 second-half points and was led by TJ Williams and Amalachi Wilkins, who each had 17 points and combined for 18 rebounds in Heights’ win. K’Mari Holt had 12 and Aven Mboule 10 for Heights. Tasean Williams led Northwest with 12.

Wichita Southeast 59, Bishop Carroll 58

 

Girls scores

Andover 70, Campus 11 — Nine players scored in Andover’s win with Aliyah Green (15), Alana Shetlar (15) and Brooke Walker (13) leading the way.

Arkansas City 53, Rose Hill 21

Bishop Carroll 57, Wichita Southeast 49 — Leah Henke hit three threes and scored a game-high 23 points. Alana Webb hit three threes and scored a team-high 22 points for Southeast, and Mikhiyah Jones had 16.

Buhler 56, Nickerson 42

Cheney 60, Clearwater 49 — While Clearwater outscored Cheney 43-35 in the final three periods, Cheney’s 25-6 first-quarter lead was the difference. Elizabeth Tjaden had 16 points for Clearwater.

Circle 51, Kingman 39 — After Circle took a 25-12 lead at the half, Kingman made a run in the third quarter, scoring 18 points, including nine from Freund. But that first-half lead was too much to overcome. Circle was led by Kya Thornton’s 20 points. She hit four threes. Wood scored 12 for Kingman.

Independent 66, Kiowa County 16 — Zoey Buckner-Franklin scored 27 for Independent, and Stephie Safi-Salamu and Quinacy Galbert each had 11.

Kapaun 68, Wichita North 28 — Lizzie Romer scored 19 for Kapaun, and M. Spiers had 13. Charley Hill led North with 14.

Lebo 55, Flinthills 27

McPherson 52, Dodge City 24

Medicine Lodge 51, Conway Springs 47 — Medicine Lodge’s Shinliver scored 13 points, and Jacobson and Bryan each had 11. Conway Springs’ Haylee Osner had a game-high 17 points, and Melissa Ebenkamp had 12 points, 10 rebounds.

South Barber 38, Caldwell 32

Trinity Academy 62, Garden Plain 34 — Trinity Academy was led by Ivey Wheeler with 18 points, Makenna Balzer 10 and Claire Rolfs had five steals. Garden Plain’s Reese Stuhlsatz scored 16 points and had seven rebounds.

Wellington 47, Mulvane 25 — Wellington held Mulvane scoreless in the first quarter en route to the victory. Val Norwood scored 16 and Britt Zeka 15, including four three-pointers, in the win over Mulvane. Garrison led Mulvane with 14.

Wichita Heights 66, Wichita Northwest 9 — Kennadi Jackson scored a game-high 25 and Samiyah Ellis had 16 in the Heights win.

Wichita South 94, Wichita West 16
