South Haven’s Sydney Bacon – All Seasons Letterman of the Month

By Matt Browning

Sydney Bacon of South Haven was chosen as the All Seasons Letterman of the Month for March. Bacon competes in volleyball, basketball and track and field at South Haven.

“Being nominated for this award is an honor and I am grateful to have the opportunity to represent my school and community,” Bacon said.

All spring sports were canceled last spring because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Bacon would not have been able to compete anyways as she tore her ACL during basketball in February. She was not able to play volleyball this year, either.

Her injury gave her new outlook on being able to compete in high school athletics.

“The recovery for ACL reconstruction was difficult but gave me a new appreciation for the opportunity to compete in athletics,” Bacon said.

Bacon was released from her injury just in time for basketball season and more importantly for track, where she has lofty aspirations.

“I am most excited for the upcoming track season,” Bacon said. “I have ambitions of qualifying for the state track meet in May. My events include the 100, 200, 400, and 4×100.”

Bacon plans on attending Kansas State next year and majoring in Kinesiology in hopes of getting into physical therapy.
