The Mulvane football team was chosen as the Visit Wichita Team of the Month for August. The Wildcats finished last season with a record of 8-3 and advanced to the sectional round of the 4A playoffs.
Mulvane lost a significant amount of talent off that roster, but head coach Daniel Myears does not think that changes how he and his program view this season’s expectations.
“We love the ‘ole names change but expectations don’t’ mantra,” Myears said. “We want to win AVCTL DIII and we want to finish top four in 4A west.”
While the Wildcats will depend on new faces for skill positions on offense, they do possess significant talent returning on the offensive line with Kaiden Abasolo, Ethan Tharp, Austin Vanderhoof and Andy Huynh returning.
“Offensively we return four offensive linemen,” Myears said. “We are going to lean on them to get us through some early weeks as we get our identity set with our skill kids.”
While the success and accolades are something Myears and the Wildcats enjoy year in and year out, the head coach likes to take a long-term view of what quantifies success.
“Success for us is that we play within our core values of a football team and of a young man,” Myears said. “Bottom line: we are looking to develop our athletes into great people, great dads, and productive members of our society.”
