Moundridge Boys Track – Team Of The Month Presented By Visit Wichita

By Matt Browning

Last season, the Moundridge boys track team won the 2A Tournament and that taste of the podium is what is fueling the Wildcats this season.

“Getting back is always difficult,” said Moundridge coach Brian Holloway. “With such a small team, we are not able to fill up the ‘stat sheet’ like other schools. But we do have quality kids. As a team, we don’t talk about repeating, as too many variables come into play. The kids talk about getting on the podium, whichever form that takes. Last year we did what we had to do, and then got a little help along the way.”

There are four key athletes, who figure to be state contenders for Moundridge: Kaden Elmore, Mac Unruh, Logan Churchill and Landon Kaufman.

All four won at least one event last season.

“I don’t feel like the kids feel any pressure,” Holloway said. “It’s more of a confidence that we can compete with the Garden Plains of the state.”

What is particularly encouraging and exciting for Holloway is the amount of good young kids in the program, which sets Moundridge up for long term success.

“We have a good bunch of young kids that are learning from the older kids what it means to work hard,” Holloway said. “Sophomores Henry Hecox and Bear Moddelmog are ones to watch in the javelin, along with Dan Dixon and Caleb Ward in the shot.”
