Maize’s Ronan Wunsh – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Shelter Insurance, Landon Head

By Hayden Swope

Ronan Wunsh of Maize ended last wrestling season with only eight losses, and plans to better his overall record, as he’s undefeated so far. Being a leader on and off the mat, Wunsh is ready to finish off this season strong.

“I’m focused on winning a state title individually and as a team,” Wunsh said. “I hope I finish undefeated. I’m going strong right now being 32 and 0. I’m trying to get the most tech falls and the most back points on the team. There are always areas of improvement for me and personally I think I need to get stronger and get better on my feet.”

Wunsh started his wrestling career out young, and it’s been go, go, go, ever since.

“My dad started wrestling in highschool and then started me and my brother early at the age of four,” Wunsh said. “I have wrestled for 14 years now.”

Throughout his 14 years of experience, the best moments were winning those key matches.

“My favorite memory for sure is winning Stampede, that is one of my biggest accomplishments,” Wunsh said.

Wunsh plans to continue to wrestle after high school at the next level, but isn’t decided on where yet.

“I want to go to college for sure and wrestle,” Wunsh said. “I want to be one of the best and show people what I can do at a higher level.”
