Spring sport athletes like Luke Swan, a varsity tennis player at Collegiate, can hardly wait to get back to competition after losing an entire season to the pandemic. For Swan, being with his teammates and competing for his school is the most exciting part of his school year.
“I am so eager to compete for Collegiate again this year after our absence of a season in 2020. I personally am very excited to get back out on the court to represent my school and I am sure my teammates are ready to do the same,” said Swan. “My freshman and sophomore year I played doubles with Max Wheeler, who is now a tennis player at William Jewell College. We were able to win state doubles and also a team state championship in 2019. It is undecided what I will be playing this year, but I know that I will do whatever is possible to ensure that our Collegiate tennis team brings back another state title.”
Swan started playing tennis at the age of four. It was his sister who encouraged him to give the sport a try.
“The thing I most love about my team is the environment and comradery. I have made so many friends throughout my experience on the Collegiate tennis team and I hope to hold these relationships for a long time,” said Swan.
His plans after high school include college and more tennis.
“My plans after I graduate are to go to university. I intend to continue playing tennis throughout my next four years and hopefully for the rest of my life,” said Swan.
