When Carson Hamby of Hutchinson-Central Christian first got involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he was a freshman. Like many of his peers, he got involved in FCA thanks to the invitation of a friend.
“Senior Collin Oswalt always encouraged me to attend the FCA meetings that he started up at school,” said Hamby.
A three-sport athlete (golf, football, basketball) Hamby is close to many of his teammates and the FCA has helped them solidify their relationships.
“I have enjoyed the relationships that I have made through FCA and getting more opportunities to talk about God with my teammates that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise,” said Hamby. “I love how close all of us are. We are able to have fun with each other on and off the course but also have serious conversations about how our lives are going and hold each other accountable.”
As a student-athlete, Hamby said the FCA has helped him in many ways.
“FCA has really showed me how God works through sports and ways that we can glorify him while we are playing them,” said Hamby. “I would encourage others to join FCA because it gives you the chance to open up about your spiritual life with fellow athletes and build lasting relationships.”
His future plans include attending college after high school for engineering.
“I’m not sure where yet but I’m just looking to fulfill God’s plan for my life and glorify Him down whatever path He ends up taking me,” said Hamby. “My favorite bible verse would probably be Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This verse is a verse of gratitude that constantly reminds me of Jesus’ love for me.”
