Hellas Field of the Month: Wichita North High School

Hellas Field of the Month:
Wichita North High School

The second high school constructed in Wichita, North was completed in 1929 and over the years they have enjoyed their share of great student-athletes who have gone on to play professional sports. They can all share in the pride of having a new field for the athletic teams thanks to the efforts of Athletic Director Anthony W. Douglas, the school board, administration and Hellas Construction. The improvements made by Hellas Construction are welcomed additions to a storied program. “The field by Hellas will have the new cushion pad and drain. The wood trim replaced as well,” said Athletic Director Douglas.

For Douglas and his staff, working with Hellas was a great experience from planning to completion, the Hellas team worked tirelessly to provide a great product and keep the team at North updated on the progress. “Working with Hellas was a great experience. The team was in communication prior to the project. Prior to the project being started, they provided art renderings and a clear vision of what it was going to look like. The team was in constant communication along the way,” said Douglas.

Having this project completed prior to starting other projects this summer was important for Douglas and his staff. The improvements made to the field will not only give the students pride in their school but will also give the student-athletes a safer surface to play on. “It provides a great playing surface for our student-athletes to practice and compete on. Knowing they have the best playing surface to practice and play on, gives them a sense of pride. This is “their” field,” said Douglas.

Making the decision to hire Hellas Construction for this project was an easy one for North High School. “Hellas has an excellent product and reputation and came to the board of education with the lowest bid and the highest quality product,” said Douglas.  This summer, other projects are in the works for North. From the track to the gym, the students have a lot to be proud of at North.

“The track is being resurfaced this summer. The two gym floors are being sanded and re-painted as well,” said Douglas.
