Jim Foltz, who is the baseball coach at Goddard, has been named the “Behind the Scenes” spotlight recipient for June. Foltz has spent over 30 years in education.
“Coaching has always been something I have enjoyed, sharing knowledge and experiences to assist with developing our youth,” Foltz said. “Many positive experiences for myself came from athletics and the influence of coaches and teachers. Our game of baseball, as many have described, parallels life. Teaching student athletes the value of working to achieve success, handling setbacks, and having personal dignity are life skills for success.”
Foltz spent his first eight years as an assistant baseball coach, and then transitioned to the head job at Goddard. After that he was an administrator and even coached for a time with the former Wichita Wingnuts.
He returned to be the head coach at Goddard last season.
“In addition to teaching life skills, our greatest opportunity for development in baseball comes through practice and preparation,” Foltz said. “Fundamentals, anticipation, and dedication to developing strengths enrich each athlete’s work ethic and instills value to team success. Every member takes on the opportunity to better themselves each day. We follow “Nine 4 One” as a core value in our program.”
Foltz said he plans on coaching as long as he feels he is still able to reach his players.
“I’m enjoying our young men, coaching staff, and the GHS community,” Foltz said. “As far into the future, as long as I have the ability to make connections and have a sense of making a difference for our students, I will continue to coach.”
