L.J. Berkstresser of El Dorado was voted the Wichita Large School Preseason Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Berkstresser received nearly 1,300 votes, which was more than 43 percent of the overall vote. “It means a lot and I’m glad people are recognizing and deciding to vote for me,” Berkstresser said. “I’m thankful for them, however, those were some great players on that list and I still have to prove the voters right.”
Berkstresser was a second team all-league selection last season for the Wildcats. Berkstresser is focused on becoming a better shooter this season in hopes to help his team improve on last season’s 4-17 record. “I would probably say the strength of my game is my court vision and passing and I would say my weakness is my jumper as I am kind of a streaky shooter at times,” Berkstresser said. “I’ve been working on the consistency of my shot and making sure it feels the same every time I shoot the ball as well as my finishing around the rim.”
Berkstresser wants to play basketball as far as that takes him whether that is in college or professionally overseas. At this time, he is unsure about what he wants to study in college.
