Sheila Fugarino of Clearwater was chosen for the Behind the Scenes feature for August. Fugarino has multiple responsibilities within the district, including a secretary at the high school and the Booster Club president. She started working at the high school a year and a half ago.
“Some would say I’m able to help because of these positions, but anyone who knows me would say I’m in these positions because I want to help,” Fugarino said. “I’m also fortunate enough to have a husband who works hard to support us so I have the time and ability to help.”
Fugarino said the Booster Club is a vital asset to small communities like Clearwater where it can help cover costs within the program.
“Due to our small population, it’s much harder to draw large sponsors into a small market,” Fugarino said. “We rely on the dedication of our members to actively work and promote fundraisers to gather the much needed funding.”
With two sons at Clearwater, Fugarino understands how important it is to support the athletic programs not only financially, but as a fan, too.
“Fewer and fewer people seem to volunteer anymore, but it’s been proven that extracurricular activities have a positive impact, and if my extra effort helps the team, then in the end, my kids benefit too,” Fugarino said. “No one else can appreciate how much work and effort your kid has put into their activity.”
