After losses to Garden Plain and Kingman, Conway Springs dominated the rest of the regular season and playoffs, helping them clinch a berth in the state championship game versus Jefferson County North.
The snow wasn’t a problem as Brayden Kunz and the Cardinals jumped out to a 21-6 first-half lead.
They would continue to the ground-and-pound game, scoring two more touchdowns, leading to the eventual victory for the Cardinals.
“We have been deep in the playoffs for many years since 2011,” head coach Matt Biehler said. “To win another state championship for our community is an accomplishment none of us will ever forget. It was an amazing ride, one of those we didn’t want to end I am very grateful to be a part of this.”
The 35-6 win gave Conway their first state title in class 1A and the first since 2011.
All-state running back and linebacker Brayden Kunz led the Cardinals, who finished his career with 6,322 rushing yards, 83 touchdowns, 271 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and four interceptions.
