Chaparral’s Aiden Guy – Athlete Spotlight Presented by WSU Tech

Aiden Guy of Chaparral was voted the Wichita Small School Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year. Guy went 23 for 26 in extra point and field goal attempts last season for the Road Runners.

His goal for the season is to improve on those numbers.

“My expectation for myself is to go at least 95 percent from kicking field goal and extra points,” Guy said.

Playing for a small school like Chaparral, Guy is asked to do plenty of things besides kick. He is also a starting running back and linebacker for the Road Runners.

He has been working on all facets of his game for the upcoming season.

“My strengths are kicking and being able to see the field whole field and read plays quick because I’m not the fastest guy so I have to react quick,” Guy said. “I utilize my strengths on defense as middle linebacker reacting towards the backfield and on offense as running back, choosing the right hole. My weakness is my speed. I have been doing isometric lifts all summer to build strength in my legs to improve my speed.”

Guy got hurt in the playoffs last season, so he was unable to play in nearly two of those games. That gave him some time to reflect on what football means to him.

“Football lights a fire for me inside and you never know when it’s going to be your last,” Guy said. “So, this coming season for my senior year I plan on taking in all these feelings and let my fire burn on the field hoping to lead my team to success.”
