Football and baseball player Bo VanBruggen is a junior at Buhler High School and an outdoorsman. His favorite activities include hunting and fishing. “I’ve been hunting and fishing my entire life. It’s something me and my dad have bonded together over,” said VanBruggen.
Football is his favorite sport, but teammates from both sports are like family said VanBruggen. “My football and baseball team are family. The bond we have made together is strong. I’ve played sports with most of these guys since I was in grade school.”
VanBruggen has made some great memories on the gridiron and in the woods hunting, trapping and fishing with dad. “My favorite hunting story is probably my last first deer. It was during rifle season. It was almost dark when a nice eight point came walking in. I shot and it ran… we waited for 30 minutes and went to go find it. The problem was we couldn’t find a blood trail, but we could find fresh hoof marks. We followed them for two hours until we were about to give up and I found a little drop of blood. We followed that little bit of blood to my first deer,” said VanBruggen.
Taking care of the land and waterways is important to VanBruggen and his family. “Conservation is very important because I want my kids to experience the same things I get to,” said VanBruggen.
Trapping is another activity VanBruggen and his father enjoy doing in the outdoors. “My dad and I love to trap. That is the new thing outdoors we have been doing. We started a couple of years ago,” said VanBruggen.
After he graduates from Buhler High School, VanBruggen plans to attend college and continue to hunt and fish when time allows it. “I plan to go to college but at this time I am undecided where I will go. I plan to major in physical education and minor in history.”
