6A Swimming…. What if? – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

The only two City League teams to place at the 6A Swimming Tournament last season were East and West.

The main swimmers from those teams were in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events, where Maci Mccullough from West took second in the 100, while winning the 200. East’s Astrid Dirkzwager took first in the 100 and her sister Ariana Dirkzwager took second to Mccullough in the 200.

Prediction: Astrid Dirkzwager, who will be swimming at Georgia Tech next year, not only defended her title in the 100, but also won by more than three seconds over Mccullough.

Additionally, Dirkzwager won the 100-yard backstroke to give her five state championships.

The 200-yard freestyle event was an exciting one as it came down to a few tenths of a second.

But Mccullough was able to also defend her title, narrowly winning the 200-yard freestyle event by three-tenths of a second of Arian Dirkzwager.
