At no time in the school’s history has Campus been crowned state champion in boys basketball.
But the 2019-2020 was much different than any other season the Colts had played.
Led by future Division I signee Sterling Chapman, Campus boasted a roster unlike any other in the state with multiple future college basketball players.
After defeating Manhattan 66-50 in the 6A quarterfinals, the path to a state title for the Colts was Blue Valley North in the semifinals then likely perennial power Blue Valley Northwest in the finals.
Under the guidance of legendary head coach Ed Fritz, the Huskies had won five of the previous seven 6A titles, but they did not have the kind of talent and depth as Campus.
Prediction: Campus had little trouble with Blue Valley North in the semifinals, winning 68-50, which set up the much-anticipated matchup in the finals with Blue Valley Northwest.
While the Huskies were certainly a worthy opponent in the finals, the Colts simply wore them down in a 65-56 victory. Chapman scored 21 points for Campus, who outscored Blue Valley Northwest 23-11 in the third quarter.
Campus concluded a perfect season and a spot in Kansas’s high school basketball history.
