Q&A with McPherson’s Kyla Lang – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

VYPE spoke with McPherson’s Kyla Lang to talk about her life on and off the track.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for the year are to stay consistent, keep a positive mindset, and to make it to the state podium again this year.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher has to be Mr.Schopper because no matter how bad of a day he is having, he is always making sure everyone else’s day is better. He gives constant encouragement to everyone in my public speaking class and is always making his students laugh.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory has to be going to state and making it on the podium with my 4X100 and 4X400 teams. Being in Cessna Stadium on the field at state track is unreal and I don’t think I will forget that feeling.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Harper Smith has left the biggest impression on me as a teammate because she was a leader. She was who you would go to if you needed anything. She was a hard worker, who pushed me daily in practice.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part about being on the McPherson team is the energy the coaches create. I will come to practice without a smile on my face and in two minutes it’s there. My relay coach, Monti, will set me straight with honesty while talking to me through a baton. My long jump coach, Cece, never fails to yell “There’s the Langenator” while I’m walking to the pits.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

If I could go anywhere on vacation, I would go to Greece. I’ve always wanted to go and I would take my best friend Aimee with me because it’s never a dull moment with us.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

A new hydro flask cup because I broke mine, air jordan 1 elevate lows in beige/pink, and my boyfriend a cirkul water bottle because he refuses to drink water that isn’t flavored.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

Yes, I do most of my community service projects with/through my church. This last year we cleaned out an old trailer home and fixed it up for a homeless man and I think that’s the biggest project I’ve done.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

I have been involved in national honor society since my junior year and was a class officer for the first three years of high school.
