Derby’s, Mayciee Bell – Athlete Spotlight

By Joanna Chadwick

Derby senior Mayciee Bell has always been the “fast kid,” she said. So when it was time for her to move on to organized sports in seventh grade, she knew that track was going to be her sport.

Bell currently runs the 100-meter hurdles, the 300 hurdles and runs on the 400 relay team.

“I love it. We got lucky with our coaches that we have and their knowledge about track while pushing us to get better, and it’s really showed,” Bell said.

Bell currently runs a 15.68 in the 100 hurdles and a 48.12 in the 300 hurdles.

She came into the season only trying to better her times, but with her being able to achieve so much more than that this season, she has been looking to the future more and more.

“I do plan on going to run track in college, but as of right now, it’s still unknown where I am going,” Bell said.

She qualified for state track in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. In doing so she has changed her whole mindset when running.

“I know I am capable of beating my goals and know not to fall over any hurdles even if I hit one during the race,” she said.

The senior has been putting all of her energy into finishing her career the right way as a Derby Panther and is looking to make a huge splash at state track.
