Remington’s Angel Lopez – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Salina Regional Sports Medicine

Angel Lopez of Remington was voted the Wichita Small School Preseason Offensive Lineman of the Year. Lopez was first team all-league and all-district last season for the Broncos.

“An individual expectation I have for myself is to leave no regrets,” Lopez said. “I have one last high school season, so I want to use it to my advantage by having fun and playing the game I love in front of a great community.”

While Lopez has the physical tools necessary to be a dominating offensive lineman, he feels like there is an additional area of his game that is a strength.

“Personally, I think that one of my biggest strengths apart from being very physical is just my knowledge,” Lopez said. “I feel like I can read defensive fronts very well and give out the right calls to my offensive line.”

Lopez and his family have had to deal with significant tragedy over the last year, as his brother, who would have been a senior, was killed in a car accident. But Lopez, while still grieving the loss of his brother, turned to the game he loved to help alleviate the pain.

“I knew that being on that field wasn’t going to heal my hurt, but it was going to help me keep pushing and keep my family going as well,” Lopez said. “My brother wasn’t just my brother, he was my best friend, teammate and much more…and in my heart I know that throughout my football journey I will have my brother by my side every step of
the way.”
