Mason Thrush from Maize was voted the Wichita Large School Preseason Offensive Lineman of the Year. Thrush was an honorable mention all-league selection for the Eagles last season and is currently being recruited by multiple Division I programs. He allowed just one sack last season.
Thrush has made significant improvement each season with the Eagles and he has even bigger plans this season.
“As an individual I am expecting to have my best season yet and be a force in the trenches,” Thrush said. “As a team we want to finish what we started last year and win state.”
Some of Thrush’s best attributes are his football IQ and his field vision. But there are still some areas he would like to improve on.
“Something I am looking to improve on is my leadership skills on the offensive line because I have the most varsity in game experience,” Thrush said. “I will utilize my strength by mentoring and helping the rest of the offensive line and team reach our full potential.”
Losing in the state title game last season has been something Thrush has thought about often this offseason.
“I think the thing that motivates me is the thought that we came short last year at state, and how much it hurt to lose that game,” Thrush said. “Now I want to finish what we started.”
