Caleb Sanger of Hutchinson Trinity was voted the Wichita Small School Preseason Running Back of the Year. Sanger was all-district and honorable mention all-state a year ago.
“I feel like my expectations this year is to be the best running back in 1A,” Sanger said. “I have just put a lot of work towards it and gathered a lot of hype because of that.”
In 2021, Sanger rushed for 781 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Celtics, which finished the season 4-5, but he saw a clear weakness he wants to improve on for 2022.
“The biggest thing I took away from last year was just trusting in my team,” Sanger said. “Last year it was hard to trust them, which was a very big mistake. I think I could have done more if I gave them the trust they gave me.”
Sanger is optimistic about a successful season for the Celtics this season.
“For the team I think or expectations for the team is winning state,” Sanger said. “We put a lot of time on the field and in the weight room. Everyone brings our own sort of energy, so I feel like no one expects less from us then a state championship.”
