Macey Pond of South Haven was voted as the Wichita Small School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Pond received over 21,000 votes, which was nearly 29 percent of the overall vote.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized among such talented individuals,” Pond said. “I’m truly humbled by the nomination and support from my peers, friends, and family.”
Pond averaged 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals per game for the Cardinals, which finished the season 12-8. Pond was unsure how she would preform this season, considering she tore her ACL last season.
“I feel like I had a great season,” Pond said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect after coming back from a season-ending injury last year but I knew that I was ready to be back on the court again. I’m thankful to say the Lady Cardinals had a successful, winning season that I got to be apart of. After being chosen to be a team captain, I worked hard to improve on being a leader for the team.”
Pond would like to play basketball in college and during her recovery from her injury she developed an interest in physical therapy as a possible career.
“I want to help others get back to their full potential just like I was able to,” Pond said.
