Wichita Large School Player of the Year-Ashton Ngo, Andover

Ashton Ngo of Andover was voted as the Wichita Large School Football Player of the Year. Ngo received over 7,000 votes, which was 44 percent of the overall vote.

Ngo, who was named to the VYPE All-State team as a linebacker, recorded 77 tackles, seven tackles for a loss and four sacks. Ngo also played some on the offensive side of the ball, too, where he racked 576 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

“It is an honor to be selected player of the year,” Ngo said. “There were so many other great players on the list (of nominees).”

Andover finished the season 5-4 in the highly competitive Class 5A west bracket and Ngo was a key factor in the Trojans improving on their 2019 record of 3-7.

“Ashton was the type of leader that was far more worried about what he could do for the team than what the team could do for him,” Andover coach Ken Dusenberry said. “He was a quiet leader who led by always working and by never changing his approach whether things were going well for us or poorly. He was the same guy, every single day. He made everyone around him better.”

While Ngo was the anchor of the Trojans’ defense, it was actually an offensive memory that stood out to him from the 2020 season, along with just being able to play during a pandemic.

“The best moment of the year was the long run I had against Valley Center because it set the tone of the game,” Ngo said. “Overall the best part about this season was being able to play with my boys every Friday night.”

At this time, Ngo has not decided on his college choice, but he wants to pursue a career as a chiropractor.
